Lake Lucerne Resort Guide

Resort Information

Beautiful Lake Lucerne with its precipitous tree-lined cliffs rising up from the clear blue waters is steeped in the history of William Tell and the formation of Switzerland. The glacial lake is the meeting point of four Swiss cantons with finger like fjords stretching into the mountains. We offer accommodation in Vitznau and Lucerne. The cultural city of Lucerne is at the northern most end of the lake whilst Vitznau is an idyllic village on the sunny west side.

Please note: scheduled flights are not bookable online, please contact reservations on 0871 230 8180

Walking

Lake Lucerne offers great walking possibilities, the majority of trails are well signposted with walking times and the cable cars and mountain railways give easy access to the routes. From Weggis, the wooded slopes of the Rigi offer numerous paths and a cable car connects the village to the cog railway from Vitznau. There are also many flat paths around the lake for gentle strolls.

Activities

Lucerne is a city on the lake, divided in two by the river with old and new quarters. The city itself offers many attractions including the Glacier Garden, shops, galleries and many museums. Guided tours are available or you can explore the old city centre yourself, not forgetting to cross the famous Chapel bridge, the oldest wooden bridge in Switzerland that dates back to the 14th century. On the lake itself there are 20 boats, including 5 nostalgic paddle steamers, offering endless trips around the lake and to the many pretty villages and towns, all within easy reach. Why not take a lunch cruise or take an evening trip to admire the sunset. For something a bit more active try some of the many watersports on offer including waterskiing, fishing and swimming. Around the lake there are many other activites, with horse riding, 6 golf-courses within half and hour of Lucerne, canyoning and tandem parachute flights! Lucerne's excellent location close to Mount Pilatus, Rigi and Titlis means there are some delightful excursion possibilities (see our 'away days' box for more details).
