Las Alpujarras Resort Guide

Resort Information
The Alpujarras is an area of breathtaking countryside between the Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean. White villages with winding streets and their stone surfaces cling to the hillsides in what seems like an area where time has stood still. The region was inhabited by the Moors from the 8th century, trading with nearby Granada and Moorish influences can still be seen today in the architecture, locally made rugs and ceramics and other crafts on sale in traditional shops.
Walking
Walking in the Alpujarras is inspiring with breathtaking terrain including serious hikes up the Mulhacen, the highest peak in mainland Spain offering panoramic views across the Sierra Nevada National Park that sometimes reach as far as the Mediterranean. Capileira has a National Park minibus and interpretation service which runs in to the National Park, giving access to some of the higher peaks. Both Bubion and Capileira are well known starting points for some of the more challenging of the walks in the area and are good bases for the serious walker. However, both walking and relaxing in this region go hand in hand together with the typically Andalucian pace of life!
