Walking
In Kransjka Gora there are excellent opportunities for walks of all abilities. Through the woods, around the lake, visiting waterfalls, rambling through the valleys dotted with small farms or up on the mountains either via the walking trails or the chairlift that operates in high season (3 days per week). The Triglav national park became the first protected area in Slovenia, in 1924. It offers hiking delights, where you can admire the colourful alpine flora and observe animals in their natural environment. Guided tours of the park, led by natural scientists or professional park guides are available. For people looking for a serious hike, a full day will be needed to trek up to the Prisank mountain.
In Bohinj there are easy walks around the lake, with more demanding hikes also available. Try the 'Seven lakes hike' or the 'Savica waterfall walk', over mountain brooks and streams to ravines and gorges. For more serious hiking, you should try the full day's trek up to Prsivec, in the very heart of the Julian Alps.
On the 'sunny side of the Alps', the climate is ideal for all types of outdoor activities, including cycling, horse riding or buggy rides, tennis, swimming, rowing boats, crazy golf and fishing. There are numerous bicycle trails in both resorts, from easy family rides along the valley, to more demanding routes that will satisfy serious mountain bikers.
Kranjska Gora is a wonderful alpine village offering a range of shops, bars, street cafés, restaurants, leisure and sports facilities. In Bohinj there are lots of summer activities including a classical music festival and performances by the Bohinj Brass band, traditional festivals such as the 'Peasant Wedding', Midsummer's night and the 'Cows' ball'.
Lake Bohinj is on the edge of the Triglav National Park, which ranks amongst one of the finest protected areas in Europe, occupying an incredible 4% of Slovenia! Here, enthusiastic botanists will be stunned by the diversity of mountain flora influenced by the balmy continental climate. Bohinj will proudly be hosting their '1st International Wildflower festival' between 26/05/07-09/06/07.
