Lake Bled Resort Guide

Resort Information

In the beautiful north-western corner of Slovenia, the lakeside resort of Bled nestles amidst dense pine forests, surrounded by the dramatic snow-capped Julian Alps. The beautiful lake features the tiny wooded island ‘Maria of the Lake’, which is crowned by an idyllic baroque church amidst its glittering blue waters. This area is ideal for those in search of tranquility, with wonderful lakeside promenades to enjoy. Horse drawn carriages are ready to take you up to the medieval ‘Castle of Bishops’, with its fascinating museum and terraced restaurant offering breathtaking views.

Walking

The areas surrounding Bled are easily explored on foot, with a range of interesting walks including the hike to Mt. Straza. The scenic walk around the lake itself is a good start, from which you can climb to the ramparts of the castle for fantastic views of the lake. Lake Bled is situated on the edge of the Triglav National Park and is an excellent base from which to enjoy some of the walking routes in the park. Places of interest in the Park include Vintgar Gorge, Pokljuka Plateau and Pod Babjim zobom Cave. This magnificent and rugged landscape is inhabited by an extremely rich variety of flora and fauna with numerous rare and protected plant and animal species. Well-marked footpaths and mountain trails and numerous mountain huts enable hikers to visit the higher areas of the National Park.

Activities

Warm springs feed this famous spa resort, making bathing in the calm waters of the lakeside lido a delight. Rowing, and fishing are all popular pursuits on the lake. There are also tennis courts, crazy golf, horse riding and summer tobogganing. Take a 'pletna' (Bled’s version of a gondola) to visit Bled Island and the church of St. Mary (built in the 14th Century), a 'must' when in Bled. You can also explore along the nearby rivers by kayak or river raft. Ask your Crystal rep. for more details.
