At the southern end of the lake and one of the largest town's, Desenzano is a typical Italian lakeside town, totally unspoilt by international tourism. Much favoured by the Italians themselves as a holiday destination, it offers historical and archeological interest dating back to Roman times. Fishing boats and elegant yachts rock gently in the harbour and the excellent public boat service links Desenzano with other destinations around the lake. Narrow streets house antique shops and fashionable boutiques and there are over 40 restaurants, trattorias and pizzerias.
