Resort Information
A pretty village, nestled in the foothills of the Chiemgau Alps, Ruhpolding is a wonderful holiday destination. As you enter the village the relaxed, holiday atmosphere greets you. Surrounded by meadows, with a backdrop of mountains, the village offers activities to suit all tastes and hotels with comfortable rooms. Warm Bavarian hospitality brings guests back year after year.
Walking
The combination of wide valley floors, rolling hills and steeper mountains make Ruhpolding a wonderful area for walking. Stroll along river banks or through flower filled meadows, or climb higher, into the mountains, pausing to enjoy some stunning views. In total there are about 290km of marked paths of varying levels. There are also two summer lifts in the area - the Unternberg chair lift and the Rauschberg cable car. A popular walk to take is the "Smugglers' Walk", over the border into Austria - starting from Laubau (on the outskirts of Ruhpolding), walking to the Staubbach waterfall and on over into the Heutal in Austria. The tourist office also organises guided walks each week.

Relax, unwind and perhaps try somethng new with Ruhpolding's FREE weekly programme of activities. From Monday through to Friday expert coaches offer a selection of activities including Nordic walking, Qi Gong (a combination of martial arts and meditation), aqua aerobics at the Vita Alpina pool, inline skating, guided walks and guided bicycle and mountain bike tours. Everyone is welcome!
Activities
The 'Vita Alpina' in Ruhpolding is a fantastic pool/leisure complex with indoor and outdoor pools, sunbathing lawns, children's play areas, water slides and saunas. Bikes can be hired locally and there is a large network of cycle paths - into the higher mountain areas, or cycle north towards Chiemsee following the flatter, gentle valley routes. There is a local bus service and from Ruhpolding the railway can take you further afield. Tickets are great value - at weekends up to 5 people can have unlimited rail travel for approx. £20 and children up to & incl. 14yrs travel free. As well as swimming, cycling and sight-seeing, there is loads more to see and do - fishing, a 9-hole golf course, mini-golf, tennis, bowling, concerts, folklore evenings, museums and much more.
