Königssee Resort Guide

Resort Information
Protected by Germany's second highest mountain, the Watzmann (2713m), Bechtesgadener Land has stunning scenery wrapped in a blanket of tales of its famous history. Königssee, the "King's Lake", and the small village of Schönau on its shores, have a magical setting, quite unlike any other and are surrounded by National Park.
Walking
There are approximately 240km of hiking paths throughout 'Berchtesgadener Land', many of which are in the National Park, around the Königssee. There are many mountain huts/restaurants to stop at during your walks, and a wide range of flora and alpine animals to spot. Guided walks are organised by the tourist office.
A definite walk not to miss is up to the Jenner Mountain (1874m), where you can take in one of the most famous mountain views, towards the Watzmann (2713m). The Jenner is also served by a summer gondola lift (mid-May to Oct), so you can elect to do as much or as little of the walk as you like! A 7-day Walker's Lift Pass (approx. £35) and walking maps are available locally.
