Resort Information
A historic spa town, Bad Reichenhall has long attracted visitors looking to relax and benefit from its thermal spring waters. Nowadays the town's attractions include a modern and luxurious spa centre and a cobbled pedestrianised centre lined with cafés and stylish shops. You can also relax to the music of the town's philharmonic orchestra, a group of which performs daily. The surrounding mountains invite you to explore miles of marked footpaths and the town's railway station makes it easy to take excursions to nearby Salzburg, Berchtesgaden or even Munich.
Walking
There are approximately 240km of hiking paths in 'Berchtesgadener Land'. With the Predigtstuhl cable car leading up into the Berchtesgaden National Park, Bad Reichenhall is an excellent base for walkers. The tourist office organise regular guided walks (in English on request) and walking paths are clearly marked. There are many mountain huts/restaurants to stop at during your walks, and a wide range of flora and alpine animals to spot.
A definite walk not to miss is up to the Jenner Mountain (1874m), where you can take in one of the most famous mountain views, towards the Watzmann (2713m). The Jenner is also served by a summer gondola lift (mid-May to Oct), so you can elect to do as much or as little of the walk as you like!
A 7-day Walker's Lift Pass (approx. £35) is available locally.
Cycling & Mountain biking
This is also a fantastic area for cyclists as it sits on a number of marked cycle routes including the Mozart Cycle Way (a gentle cycle route taking you to a number of sites linked to Mozart). All routes are clearly marked and maps and bike hire are available locally.
