Resort Information
On the Gulf of Kvarner, Opatija still retains an air of grandeur and is protected by a backdrop of high mountains, covered in woodland and lush vegetation. The beautiful parks and gardens are full of sweet smelling cedars, palms, magnolia, wisteria and mimosa, well suited to the soft climate. The attractive coastal promenade, extends along the Gulf of Kvarner and boasts a wonderful range of restaurants, bars, cafés and shops, making Opatija a lively and exciting seaside resort.
Walking
The hills around Opatija offer some wonderful walking opportunities and the resort lies at the foot of mighty Mount Ucka, (1400m). There are a wide variety of marked trails though the wooded slopes, dotted with waterfalls including a 2 hour walk to the medieval fortified mountain village of Veprinac, which offers wonderful views of the coastline. The celebrated 12km promenade (lungomare) between the small fishing village of Volosko and Lovran, hugs the coast and offers an enjoyable walk, passing beautiful scenery, pretty pebbled bathing beaches and picturesque villages.
