Resort Information
The idyllic mountain town of Zell has the perfect location right on the lake, with the snowcapped peaks of the 'Hohe Tauern' mountains rising up to the south. The lake offers all kinds of water activities including lake cruises, rowing, water skiing and swimming and whilst walking in the mountains you will enjoy some magnificent views. Zell town has a beautiful historic centre with a bustling, pedestrianised area with pavement cafés and a great selection of shops to browse on a sunny afternoon. Zell's central location makes it easy to visit other areas of Austria, including a day trip to Salzburg which is just an hour and a half away.
Walking
Several cable-cars and chairlifts offer easy access to the mountains to enjoy some lovely ridge walks, including the famous 'View of 200 peaks' from the Schmittenhöhe. There are also some beautiful walks along the lakeside and from the little village of Thumersbach, on the far side of the lake, there are superb views across the water. The Schmittenhöhe lift offer programme of guided walks (with purchase of lift pass), with qualified local guides, often including a walk to the peak of the Sonnenkogel, following a route where you can learn about local flora.
Zell am See and Kaprun lifts are open mid-May to October.

The pass gives unlimited access to all cable cars at Kitzsteinhorn, Maiskogel and Schmittenhöhe, and FREE entry to the indoor and outdoor pools at Kaprun and Zell am See. You also get FREE use of the buses around the area.

Activities
Most activities centre around the lake including swimming, pedaloes, motor-boat tours, rowing, water-skiing and also yachting and windsurfing (license required). Zell also has a riding school, indoor and outdoor pools, gliding, and in July and August a real 'must' is a trip on the Pinzgau Steam Railway. Cycling is a great way to explore the lake and the nearby villages, bike hire is available locally from approx. £12 per day.
