St. Wolfgang Resort Guide

Resort Information
St. Wolfgang is a charming and historic village, in a beautiful setting on the banks of Lake Wolfgang. The village centre has an ancient pilgrimage church and frescoed old buildings as well as the 'White Horse Inn' made famous by the Operetta of the same name. Music is very important to the resort, with light classical, folklore and operatic concerts and twice weekly brass band concerts in the village square. Whether you are looking for a relaxing time cruising the crystal clear waters of a mountain lake, a fantastic base to walk around the mountains, or a centre with a great excursion programme, St. Wolfgang has everything!
Walking
The landscape around Lake Wolfgang is criss-crossed in a network of clearly marked walking paths. The walk around the lake itself is 27km but by using the boat service you can choose to do whichever part of the walk you like. A popular choice is the 'Pilgrims Way' from Ried back to St. Wolfgang. From St. Gilgen the Zwölferhorn Cable Car (50 years old in 2007!) takes you up the mountain to enjoy stunning views over the lake. Popular walking routes inclde the Illinger Alm circular walk, the 'Artists climb' to the Dittelbach Waterfalls, the climb to the Calvary chapel to enjoy the views over St. Wolfgang, the challenging hike to the pretty Schwarzsee Lake and the easy walk from Strobl to the Zinkenbach Gorge.
