Biking
Saalbach is in one of the best mountain biking areas in Austria. You can hire bikes in the village, there are over 200km of marked routes and many of the lifts will take bikes up too. Cards available include the "Bike" Card, for unlimited use of the lifts, the "Free Ride" Card, (including the downhill course) and the "Bike World" Card (including entrance to "Bike World" in nearby Leogang as well). Prices from approx. £20 for a day.

Nordic Walking - the latest fitness craze!
Saalbach has 10 Nordic walking trails, for all abilities. Beginners can join the FREE Nordic walking lessons that take place every Monday in Saalbach or Hinterglemm, just a short bus ride away. Nordic walking sticks are provided and the lesson lasts approx. 2.5 hours. There is also an easy Nordic walking trail from Saalbach that you can follow by yourself and return by post bus. If you have done Nordic walking before or wish to tackle a more challenging trail there is an interesting round trip trail with wonderful views and more difficult higher trails making use of the summer lifts. Nordic walking maps are available from the tourist office and they will be glad to point you in the right direction.

Walking Guide
Saalbach's tourist office offers an excellent programme of FREE guided walks led by English speaking guides (local charge for lunches/transport). There are normally 5 walks per week (Mon-Fri) and the walking programme varies over 2 weeks. A typical week may include:
Monday: Introductory walk (3hrs) - an easy walk introducing you to the Glemm Valley.
Tuesday: An easy mountain walk (5.5hrs) starting at the top of the Kohlmais lift.
Wednesday: A beautiful walk (5hrs) from Hinterglemm to Kitzbühel.
Thursday: A full day (6.5hrs) out on wonderful panoramic hiking trails.
Friday: Finish the week with a hike to the Staffkogel at over 2000m (5hrs).
The tourist office also include introductions to Nordic walking and torchlit walks on some weeks.
If you would like to join any of the walks you just need to register at the tourist office the day before (places are limited).
Please make sure you come prepared with walking boots (with ankle support), a day rucksack, water bottle and clothing suitable for the changeable mountain weather incl. breathable waterproofs, sun cream and a hat.
Festivals
Saalbach and the surrounding area is host to some fantastic summer festivals. Here are a few from 2007 (2008 dates tbc):

· Saalbach Summer Festival and classic car rally end of July
· Hinterglemm "Bauernmarkt" - Farmers' Market in mid August
· World Games of Mountain Biking at the end of August
