Rauris Resort Guide

Resort Information
The pretty village centre (now largely pedestrianised) features many old buildings and is almost untouched by time. There is a selection of shops, cafés and bars, traditional music evenings, and Rauris even has its own Schnapps distillery! The surrounding valleys lead straight into the unspoilt countryside of the National Park, containing many of the highest mountains in the Austrian Alps, including the 'Valley of the Eagles' - home to the protected Bearded Eagle. The FREE 'Rauris Holiday Card' makes getting to know this beautiful Austrian region easy, fun and great value for money!
Walking
Rauris makes a fabulous base for exploring the beautiful, rugged 'Hohe Tauern National Park' with walks to suit all levels. Easier walks lead along both sides of the valley directly from the village and the Hochalm gondola (FREE return ride with the 'Holiday Card') gives access to higher ground and spectacular views. The convenient 'National Park Taxi service' (small local charge) allows you to explore areas not accessible by public transport. The local tourist office offers an excellent full programme of walks, many guided by qualified National Park guides with excellent knowledge of the area and with a specific theme such as flora, fauna, history and farming (charge for transport etc).
The Hochalm gondola operates between 02/06-06/10 (daily during high season; Sat, Mon and Thurs between 02/06-29/06 and 11/09-06/10).
Walking Map

There is cycling, mountain bike tours, tennis, fishing, a bowling alley and a wonderful outdoor swimming pool as well as a nearby National Park Museum and the Wildlife Park in Bucheben. For children, the tourist office organises a Weekly Kids' Programme of various events (subject to numbers) such as family hikes, wild water adventures, climbing, raft rides and forest expeditions (small local charge).
