Obergurgl Resort Guide

Resort Information
The village of Obergurgl, Austria's highest parish, nestles at the end of the Ötz Valley, arguably the prettiest valley in the Tirol. This little mountain village is completely surrounded by vast stunning peaks in an area of astonishing natural beauty. The views all around are truly spectacular, and at an altitude of over 1,800m, you can really feel the exhilaration of the fresh mountain air. Enticingly close are the permanent snowfields of the Tiefenbach and Rattenbach Glaciers above the neighbouring village of Sölden.
Walking
Here, in the upper Ötz Valley, you feel literally on top of the world. Most of the walking routes end with panoramas - the Hangerer, known as Austria's Matterhorn, the majestic peaks of the Stubaier Alps, or the many awe-inspiring local glaciers. Standing at over 3,000m on the Schwarzkogel, all around you are spectacular views.

The Tourist Office also organises a programme of activities and events, including a regular "Flowers of the Alps" slide show in the Piccard Hall. Another great attraction in the region is the 'Ötzi Village' at Umhausen - a reconstructed stone age village with photo displays of 'Ötzi' the perfectly preserved 5000 year old man found nearby. Visit the Ötzi Village by joining a guided tour (available locally).
