Resort Information
"Enjoy a myriad of mountains and lakes with beautiful peaks and water warm enough to swim in"
This little-known and unspoilt area, known locally as 'Naturarena Nassfeld' lies in the sunny, southern province of Carinthia, close to the Italian border. The mountains open up upon a horizon of peaks which change and become more splendid as you look. The lakes are warm enough to swim in and clean enough to drink. It is this interplay of the mountains and lakes, along with the range of outdoor activities, over 2,000 hours of sunshine a year and traditional Carinthian hospitality makes this area to special. Our chosen accommodation is in Tröpolach, a small village with a number of shops, cafés, a bank and a post office. In the centre of the village is the Millenium Express gondola which will whisk walkers up to the peaks and the network of paths. Less than 2 miles away is the village of Hermagor, famous for its locally produced bacon. Just beyond this is the Presseggersee, a highlight of the local area and one of the warmest swimming lakes (up to 28 degrees in the height of summer!) in Carinthia with drinking quality water and no motor boats. The lake of Weissensee is also worth a visit - another gem of Carinthia and a superb area for walkers. Car Hire RecommendedThis is a beautiful area for walking and enjoying summer activities but if you would like to really make the most of the area, visit the lake Weiseensee and do more with your Carinthia Card, we recommend hiring a car and collecting it at the airport on arrival. We will supply you with a welcome pack which will also include directions to Nassfeld and your hotel - you should collect this from the Crystal staff at Salzburg or Ljubljana airport before you go out to get your car.
Walking
There are 400km of marked walking trails in the region so you can choose your walk with your preferred gradient and the length of time that you want. The trails are marked up according to levels of difficulty, whether in the valley or in the higher regions. There are themed hiking trails for you to follow as well as some ideal routes for strollers lower down in the valley. Some secured climbing paths will invite you to experience unforgettable peak vistas and wonderful panorama views.
Walking Map
There are numerous mountain activities to enjoy from mountain biking to other sports such as monster rollers and mountain boards. Water activities are plentiful too, including canoeing, rafting and tubing - all organised by the activity centre next to the hotel. For more leisurely pursuits, there is a railway station in Tröpolach with connections to Klagenfurt and Villach and bus services to Lake Millstatt.
