In brief
"The ultimate Austrian village, with a breathtaking glacier, amazing dams, the nearby lake at Zell am See, excellent friendly hotels, and so much to see and do"Highlights
From Kaprun you can explore on the Pinzgau steam railway or take a bus (or an easy cycle ride!) to nearby Zell am See for a boat ride on the lake. There is also a fascinating local history museum and you can make the exciting journey by bus and open-plan diagonal lift to the spectacular Kaprun high alpine dams. In addition we offer a number of organised 'away days' - guided excursions to places of interest. The drive to Grossglockner is one of the most impressive in the Alps. In the National Park, Krimml Falls is an amazing spectacle of waterfalls with a hiking trail along side leading to a pretty valley above. Liechtenstein Gorge is an equally wonderful spectacle. Why not spend a day in the region's capital, Salzbug, a classical city once known as 'the Rome of the North and once home to Mozart, and more recently to the 'Sound of Music' cast when they made the film. The town of Berchtesgaden in Germany makes an interesting day out, whether you choose to explore the salt mines or visit the 'Eagle's Nest' (optional extras, local charge), once Hitler's tea house, perched on a mountain top with wonderful views.Pre-bookable 'away days'
