Bad Hofgastein Resort Guide

Resort Information
This charming village has an idyllic setting in the Gastein Valley. Originally a market town, you'll find the village church surrounded by cobbled streets lined with a collection of cafés offering delicious cakes and shops selling local craft work. Next to the municipal hall, wander through the village's Kurpark, a relaxing haven next to the wonderful Alpen Therme - the spa centre where relaxing thermal waters fill the pools. On either side of the village, follow marked footpaths through woodland up into the stunning surrounding mountains, from where you can admire all that this valley has to offer.
Walking
Over 200km of clearly marked paths take you all through this beautiful valley and up into the surrounding mounatins. On your way, visit mountain huts and sample local produce or stop at the organic brewery for some refreshment. Take your swimsuits and bathe in the crystal clear mountain lakes. A number of summer lifts will take you higher - the Bad Hofgastein lift runs hourly from the end of May to mid-October. You can purchase a 'walking pass' to give you access to the lifts. It costs approx. £32 for 5 days (you will need a photo). A free walking map is included in your holiday price (one per booking). See page 11 for how to order (post & packaging charge applies).

Activities
The Gastein valley is famous for its thermal waters and also has lots more to offer. Relax in the Bad Hofgastein park to a classical concert (6 days per week, mid-May to mid-Sept), play tennis on one of 7 outdoor courts or take a scenic riverside walk. As well as a birdwatching path and a minigolf course you can also fish for brown trout, char or salmon trout (permits available locally), go llama trekking or try archery. Hire a mountain bike and visit one of the pretty villages along the valley or climb up into the mountains along one of many marked biking routes. Visit the bio-brewery, explore Weitmoserschlössl Castle and wonder at Gadauern Gorge. Bad Gastein is also well worth a visit with it's majestic buildings - perhaps make it an evening visit and try your luck at the famous casino!
