Customer reviews of Limone ( Italy)

The charming village of Limone was once the border between Austria and Italy and its historical lemon gardens thrive in the glorious climate. A quaint and colourful little village, Limone hugs the north-western shore of the lake, with narrow cobbled shopping streets leading on to an idyllic waterfront and two tiny picturesque harbours. Oleanders and Bougainvillaeas provide a blaze of colour throughout the summer. Limone has much to offer in the evenings, with a choice of delightful lakeside cafés and tavernas, some with live music. There are regular brass band concerts and even occasional spectacular firework displays.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday staying at Hotel Le Palme in Limone. After a fairly arduous 2 1/2 hour coach journey dropping off at various hotels in backs streets (especially in Riva) we arrived at the bust station in Limone. We were greeted by one of the hotel staff in a small electric car and transported to Le Palme through the small cobbled streets of Limone. This was our first truly wonderful surpise, all the shops, people and watering holes, just perfect for a relaxing location. Arrival at the hotal was swift and efficient, the rooms one for my wife and one for my 15 year old daughter were lovely (note no tea or coffee making facilities). We settled in and went for our evening meal. We couldn't fault the foood in anyway. each eveing we were given the menu for the following day and made our selection. walking through the town that evening for the girls was a delight. Lots of jewelery and leather shops, plenty of places to eat, drink and have ice cream. The town was also exceptionally clean. Most of the waiters and shop keepers speak german ( a lot of Germans holiday here) and english. during the week we went to Simione, Riva and Malcesine. For the more energetic there a plenty to do, cycling, walking, wind/para surfing (one of the top 5 places in the world allegedly),hang-gliding and sailing. The lake water is exceptionally clean and very rarely did I see any kind of rubbish or debris in the water in fact the whole week only one plastic bag and 3 fag butts! For the younger generation I guess Riva would be the best place, but if you just want a quiet away from it all holiday I can recomend Limone. We will be going back to explore more of this area.
